    Assignment?

So, this being my first blog post ever and all, I think its going pretty well. Anyway, reading habits… right. I prefer fiction, although there are some good nonfiction books out there. One of my favourite nonfiction books is The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls, and my favourite fiction book is unknown. There are too many good books out there to pick just one (usually). I generally will pick up a book and read it through to the end. I don’t like taking breaks or reading over long periods of time because I will usually forget what happened. I enjoy reading in quiet places with plenty of pillows (or other soft things), its also good if it is warm. If its too cold it can be a little distracting.

Looking at the experiment I did and reading things on the internet I realized that the author of the Google article seemed to make a very good point, especially when it came to reading with distractions. The internet is full of distractions, if you try to read something online, there is always some advertisement blinking or otherwise trying to get your attention. With all of these attention grabbing things, how are you supposed to really focus on what you are actually reading? When I read the two essays, I was able to focus and slow down a little more. While reading an article on the internet, there seemed to be a constant sense of urgency, and I couldn’t really concentrate and take in all of the information. If you quizzed me on the two things I read today, chances are I wouldn’t be able to recall as much of the article on the internet as the two essays. So in a sense, I think Google is making us a little stupid. However, having access to so much information is amazing, and I think it would be hard to go back on that.
